Habitual Chaos
Creating chaos by disrupting preformed habits. Habits become our reality, therefore by altering them I'll alter views on reality.
Chaos breeds thought, thought gives birth to new life. My goal is to create chaos through my designs that alter our habits and our reality.
Chaos breeds thought. Thought gives birth to life. Humans are wired to find order in everything they do, and the largest examples is through habits. Habits are a regular tendancy or practice that make up more than 40% of people's actions. The brain forms habits through "chunking" (a process in which a sequence of actions are converted into an automatic routine). And while habits are beneficial in preventing the brain from shutting down, they limiting in fostering new thoughts. Chaos forces humans to create new ideas and therefore moves mankind forward. My goal is to create chaos through my designs that alter our habits and our reality.
Visual Stimulus (December 2011, here)
I plan to create a series of conceptual experiments to explore the idea of the unconscious or subconscious. The pieces will alter the viewers sense of reality in a variety of ways. The first aspect that I want to look into is the idea of categorizing because human beings have a need to categorize everything we come into contact with. When something is unable to be defined or categorized, human beings have an uneasy experience. I also want to explore what major brands portray in relationship to reality. Nothing the media or brands produce for the consumer is reality because everything is manipulated or false in order to sell and make a profit. And the third thing that really interests me about the conscious and subconscious are dreams and memories
